MPCBs work on the same principle as motor starters and are used in the same applications. They can be connected directly to the mains or fed with an inverter. They can also be utilized by the motor-electrical control (MEC) of variable-frequency drives (VFDs) and variable-speed drives (VSDs). The electrical connections to the three-phase mains are controlled by a switch-on relay and an overload relay is installed to provide additional capacity. On the other side of the motor winding, a surge arrester is usually provided. The mains connection is normally a screw or Push-in Spring terminal and the ground connection is made with a clamp terminal.
