It was a rough day for this drug-busting cop who wakes up to find his only child is kidnapped. Retiring from the force to start his own company, he's got to go after the kidnapper, who has now graduated to kidnapping beautiful women. Or something. It's a convoluted plot. A mess of twists and turns. The thing is, this drama really does deliver, and it's impossible not to want to cheer for this under-dog hero.
The premise of this show is bad, but the acting is fantastic.
The premise of this show is bad. A troubled dad leaves the police force and starts a business. He's a pretty safe guy. He's like Tony Stark or Peter Parker. So he only hires the good guys. And there's a big twist: he's a cop who doesn't believe in locking people up for life. He believes in rehabilitation. He's not going to go easy on criminals, but he's not going to throw them in prison, either. But it all goes wrong when his only child is kidnapped. And this is where the hero arrives, going after the bad guy, who has already graduated from kidnapping women to kidnapping beautiful women, and who has kidnapped the only child who means the world to his dad. And, oh, this is just the tip of the iceberg, as another female sidekick is brought in to distract him from his plight.
So yeah, there are many, many twists in this show, and it's all over the place. It's confusing, and the narrative doesn't make much sense. But the acting is terrific, especially from Richard Tyson, who is fantastic. He has a great laugh, and you really care for him, and you root for him. And in the end, he manages to save the day and save his kid.
It's a fun, fun show, but it's also a bit of a mess. It's hard to know whether to like it or not. And the writing is, frankly, confusing, which is a big problem. It's not that the action is slow, per se. It's just that the plot is all over the place. And there are a number of scenes that are at least three or four episodes long, and at the very end of the second episode, the hero gets injured, and that kind of takes us out of the action. And, of course, it's confusing, because there's been a lotta time to develop the character, and it's going to be very confusing when that happens.
But the acting is superb, and this is a fun, fun show. I would actually recommend it.
